Glenbrittle Campsite is located on the wild West C Glenbrittle Campsite is located on the wild West Coast of Skye at the foot of the Cuillin Mountains with views over Loch Brittle.

This large campsite is ideally situated for access to some of Skye’s most popular spots. To reach it you’ll drive past the fairy pools and @talisker distillery is nearby too.

Glenbrittle is very popular in the summer, we visited in mid August and there was still plenty of pitches available but if you’re looking for quiet and peaceful in peak season then this probably isn’t the campsite for you. Having said that, there’s plenty of facilities to accommodate all the campers. A large toilet and shower block, a laundry room and electric hook ups. There’s even a cafe and shop open all day with plenty of indoor seating. You can grab a hot coffee and croissants in the morning or pick up any camping essentials you might be missing.

There’s pitches right up on the shores of Loch Brittle if a beach side spot is your preference or there’s pitches further back in land with stunning views of the mountains.

The campsite is busy with walkers and climbers during the day. And the road to it is single track so leave plenty of time to get to it. Driving past the fairy pools means lots of time spent in passing places because of the heavy flow of traffic.

The campsite is perfect if you’re happy to embrace the busyness of Skye in peak season. There’s plenty of outdoor activities to do straight from the campsite including canoeing or swimming in the Loch, walks up the Cuillins and access to some of Skye’s popular tourist spots.

Wavecrest Campsite is a peaceful site situated on Wavecrest Campsite is a peaceful site situated on the remote Isle of Barra in the Outer Hebrides. The island itself is only 14 miles in circumference and Wavecrest Campsite is located on the west coast in the village of Borve.

The campsite is basic but has everything you need, and most importantly a stunning sea view. It’s run by a very friendly local, who will make sure you’re settled in when you arrive. There’s portacabin style toilets and showers. Plus a small barn that campers can use for a bit of shelter with an electric kettle if you want to speed up boiling water. The showers are a £1, run on a token system, but for a tent and two people it costs £10 a night so paying for the showers seemed fair.

The only thing missing is washing up sinks, so we’d recommend bringing a washing up bowl to do your washing up.

The owner can organise electric hook ups, and the campsite was never full leaving plenty of space for caravans and campervans.

If the weather’s clear enough, you’ll be treated to sunsets in the evening and if your patient enough it’s possible to spot dolphins out at sea. Just make sure to bring some binoculars!

The campsite is about 15mins cycle (for those doing the Hebridean Way) from Castlebay where there’s a co-op for supplies and cafes and restaurants in the town. Other things to do on Barra include visiting the beach airport and cafe, cycling over to Vatersay and breakfast at The Deck Cafe. There are very few cafes and places to eat on the Island but the ones that are available all serve great food and drinks.

Sunnyside Croft Campsite is tucked in off the coas Sunnyside Croft Campsite is tucked in off the coastal road from Arisaig to Morar on the West coast of Scotland and ideally located if you’re catching a ferry from Mallaig the next day.

Finding a spot to camp along the coastal road in peak August and 26 degrees wasn’t the simplest of tasks as the beautiful coastline attracts a lot of wild campers. This meant all the beach side spots were full of tents, campervans and a haze of smoke from several beach BBQ’s.

There are plenty of campsites too along the road, our original aim was to spend the night at Camusdarach Campsite but it soon became clear that booking would have been advisable or arriving early in the day to get a spot.

Fortunately, Sunnyside Croft came to our rescue being the only campsite along the road that had spaces available. The coastal location and good facilities meant we were relieved to find a space. The campsite is in amongst two other sites, there’s plenty of hard standing pitches for campervans and caravans and grass areas for tents. A major plus point is a private path down to the beach for Sunnyside Croft residents only, great for an evening swim in the sea.

The campsite was slightly pricey at £30 a night for two people and a tent but we were happy to pay given how busy everywhere else was. There’s a clean and warm shower and toilet block that you’re given a key to, restricting access to campsite users only. There’s a covered area with picnic tables incase the Scottish weather lets you down. And there’s a freezer and a microwave for campers to use too.
